We recommend contacting a fireplace professional to diagnose and repair gas, pellet, wood or electric heaters. However, simple cleaning and maintenance is often the only thing that needs to be done. If you attempt to do the maintenance yourself, please take proper precautions by wearing the appropriate safety gear, disconnecting the unit from electricity, shutting off the gas, and allowing the unit to completely cool down.

Federal Tax Credit - Expired December 31, 2025
The Biomass Tax Credit, part of the Energy Efficient Home Improvement Tax Credit (IRC Sec. 25C), expired on December 31, 2025. This program previously offered homeowners a 30% credit (up to $2,000 annually) on qualifying higher-efficiency wood and pellet stoves, including installation costs. Although this credit is no longer available for new purchases or installations completed in 2026 or later, the information below is provided for reference and for homeowners who installed eligible equipment before the deadline.
Homeowners who purchased and installed a qualifying biomass stove or insert on or before December 31, 2025, may still claim the credit on their federal tax return. To do so, be sure to retain your detailed purchase and installation receipts, and download our 2023–2025 manufacturer’s certification document. If your product was installed in 2025, then you will also need our four-character PIN: H1E1. This credit is non-refundable, and we recommend consulting a tax professional to understand how it applies to your individual situation.
To qualify under the expired credit, the stove or insert must have met each of the following requirements:
Purchased AND installed on or before December 31, 2025
Burned a biomass fuel
Heated air or water
Achieved at least 75% efficiency (HHV).
Eligible installations included both primary and secondary residences, and the total claimed cost could include the unit, venting, materials and onsite labor completed before the end of 2025.
